hi....

i have an asp based website and i run it using the address:


My question is:

Is it possible that instead of computername, i provide any other string like
 
if this is a stand alone machine use the hosts file

add in 127.0.0.1 mynewweb

the hosts file is located at C:\WINNT\system32\drivers\etc on win 2k and XP

tht works for a stand alone machine...but what if it's a pc on the network or a server???????
 
use your WINS server to add a static name for the IP (note the machine will need a fixed IP or a DHCP reservation) or you can use your DNS server to add an alias (CNAME) for machine name.
