IIS 6 and Name based hosting

I've got 6 websites hosted on 1 routable IP xx.xx.xx.68 on IIS 6, Server 2003 R2 using name-based hosting. Everything works as expected when a web browser goes to

http://www.domain1.com,

http://www.domain2.com,

http://www.domain3.com

and so on. for all sites. However, if

http://www is

omitted and only domain1.com is entered, it goes to the site for

http://www.domain1.com.

If only domain2.com is entered, it still goes to the content for

http://www.domain1.com.

Is there a way to change this, in case a user "forgets" to type

http://www before

domain1.com or domain2.com or so forth? Thanks in advance for any help.

I guess I'm behind on the times. I'm still used to typing in a host name in a URL as opposed to just a domain name. However, apparently this client wants each site to be accessible by either

http://www.domain1.com

or just domain1.com. Same goes for the other 5 sites. I'm not sure if it's possible to configure this behavior in IIS. Can I add an additional host header for each site perhaps? Sorry if this sounds naive, but a situation that I haven't run across yet. Other question, DNS is hosted by ISP, not using Active Directory at this time, so not even using MS DNS server. Should there be a separate "A" record for each domain or is CNAME sufficient? Any thoughts /suggestions are welcome.

You can use a CNAME (alias) to forward domain1.com to

http://www.domain1.com,

this would be setup on the ISP DNS settings.

I've actually got mine the other way round so the A record is domain.co.uk and the CNAME is

http://www.domain.co.uk

to domain.co.uk. Don't think it matters either way though as it still all just points to an IP at the end of the day.

I post this because I'm really at my wits end. I have what I thought to be a simple installation here in my office (I'm a VoIP guy myself). Three server, all 2003 r2. At first, everthing (web site, AD, IIS, Exchange) was all on one box. I know, stupid. I have fixed the error of my ways. But here is the problem. After moving things, I can't get to the web site or OWA from external. Here is a basic layout...

file.domain.com 192.168.1.1 / 70.123.123.2 (Just a plain old file server, was the original server, has not been demoted yet, running RRAS)

mail.domain.com 192.168.1.5 / 192.168.1.6 (this is where exchange and the web site moved too)

corp.domain.com 192.168.1.3 / 192.168.1.4 (this will be the final AD resting place after moving the FSMO roles)

Mail traffic in and outbound is fine on the mail.domain.com server. No problems. Can get to both OWA and the web site internally, no problems. When I try to hit off site, ie internet,

http://www.domain.com

or mail.domain.com I get a 502 error.

I have the DNS entries in place (www; mail; corp)

Everything pings to the name (just to double check DNS)

I really don't think this is an IIS issue. Seems more like a firewall, or RRAS issue. I have been looking up and down both the servers to find the issue to no avail.
