My smtp server has stopped moving undeliverable mail from
the Drop to the Badmail folders. This is a problem because
we have an applet that forwards messages to an
administrator based on the content of messages in the
badmail folder.

This issue seemed to start at about the same time that we
installed SP 4 although I cannot make a direct connection
between the two events. It also seemed to start as a
sporadic occurrence but now every rejected message hangs
in the Drop folder.

We also experienced a concurrent problem where our server
stopped sending messages. Again, this started as a
sporadic occurrence and escalated until every sent message
failed. I was able to correct this issue by stopping my
default virtual server and creating a new virtual server
with identical settings; however, this did nothing for the
Badmail problem.

Thanks in advance for any insight or suggestions.

Thanks for the tip, Paul, but there's nothing there that relates to my issue.

Microsoft Support has suggested it may be a corrupt metabase caused by the metabase being scanned by Anti Virus software. They further suggest removing and reinstalling IIS and all of my web and mail sites. Oh joy!
