We have a Windows 2000 Professional machine running IIS 5.0 and have recently changed the machine Netbios name.

I have read Microsoft articles which say after a re-boot IIS should work fine, however it seems that our ASP pages take a very long time to create components after this change. What is the problem? Has something not been updated that needs to be?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Are you sure the problem comes from IIS, I mean : is it possible that it's the resolution of your server name by WINS or DNS that causes the thing. To check, do the following : take a PC and note the ping time to your http server using it's new name (and NOT its ip adress). Then do the same thing using then the IP adress of your http server.

If the ping times are differents, call your network manager to tell him to add the new name in the Wins. Water is not bad as soon as it stays out human body ;-)

The machine has never had a WINS entry, either now or before. It is a Laptop used primarily for Demos. It is usually not connected to a network for this, everything is done locally.

There are no problems pinging the machine, there are no problems with connections of any kind it would seem. Also the problem is the same locally.

The Machine also run MS SQL Server 7.0, which I can connect to locally, and across the network without problems.

HTML pages are also served locally and across the network without problems.

It is only the ASP pages which are now slow, both locally and across the network.
