III/300 ink sticks used in a 340

I have a Tek. 340 that prints great. I also happen to have many ink sticks left over from an older III/300 that I stopped using recently. Does anyone out there know if the ink from the older III/300 can be used in the 340 model. Commonsense tells me that the melt points may be different or that the ink may clog the print head. Just wanted to run question by the forum before I got rid of the older ink.
