Ignoring queries on solaris

Installed mysql on solaris. It seemed to install fine. However, when I connect to mysql, all queries return the message, ignoring queries for other databases. Any help getting past this problem would be appreciated.

The error message is "ignoring queries to other database", no matter what command is typed in or which database I try to query. I ahve found the error in the mysql source but I haven't used the switches that would result in that error. Thanks for any help.
