IE8 Popup blocker problem with dropdowns

Hello All,

I am running XP Pro SP3 with all of the latest update installed. I am using IE8 release version 8.0.6001.18702.

The problem I have is that it sees every drop down menu as a popup and blocks it (all sites). Pop up blocker is already disabled but when I click on a dropdown, the yellow bar appears at the top of the page with the "Popup blocked" message. When I click on it I get several options. The main one being "Turn on popup blocker". The other option is to add this as a trusted site but even adding the site as trusted does not cure the problem.

My personal firewall is turned off and this affects no-one else on my LAN except me. My security settings are default at medium high and my privacy settings are at medium. I have searched through all the settings that I can think of but am getting nowhere.

Have you tried resetting IE's Defaults, or running it with No Add-ons?

Have you tested a few of these sites via "Safe Mode with Networking"?

Are you running any Norton products? I’ve found Norton products (with the exception of Ghost, cause more problems then they fix / prevent). When did the problem start? Have you tried sweeping your computer with SpyBot or MalwareBytes?

My last suggestion is, forget about IE, get Firefox and enjoy browsing again.
