Got a problem with IE6sp1 not opening. Also affects ability to open "My Computer" and "Windows Explorer".... assume due to the integration of browser into the OS... which is XP Home.
Installed Netscape 7.1 as an alternative and it works fine.
Started in safe mode and IE and Windows file managers work fine then.
Took Startup items out of msconfig and restarted, still had problem. Took startup services out and restarted. Still had problem.
Attempted to go to add/remove programs in safe mode to uninstall ie6sp1, but doesn't show up in the list. Reinstalled ie6sp1 over existing and did not resolve.
Attempted XP's restore to previous condition feature and still have the problem.
Anyone with similar problem? At this point, not sure if could be some malware. Virus scan comes back clean with latest norton dats.
Thanks fer any help.

Probably a browser hijack or spyware problem. Got over to forum760, read the FAQs on cleanup and go for it.

The future is already here - it's just not widely distributed yet...

Thanks MasterRacker,
Installed Adaware 6, updated and ran in safe mode, removed over 225 instances of malware. Restarted in normal mode and IE's back in business.
