I was runnign IE6 and got a virus on my system. I cleaned my system and reinstalled Windows XP but IE6 will not open at all. I tried to download it to reinstall but it says I have a newer version on my computer and won't let that happen. I have changed the flags so it will look like it is an older version but the download just will not work. Now it is caught in a loop as well.

I can use MSN explorer and Netscape

Any suggestions??

Any help would be greatly appreciated

this worked great. Many instructions I have rec'd have asked to first remove current IE installation. Out of curiousity, how is this done? Add/Remove Programs only allows for Repair, not REMOVE. Thanks

Not sure I'd agree with those instructions. In my experience, you don't want to mess with removing IE, especially from XP. (Newer IE versions are built to overlay older, existing installs.)
You can get a freeware product called IERADICATOR to remove IE from 9X and even ME/2k machines, but trying to yank it from an XP machine is courting disaster.

I vote strongly with carr on this issue.
With XP you can repair IE or install it again over itself as suggested above with the Daniel Petri link, but I have never heard of a happy user result from removing it completely.

If you really do not like it, use the Service Pack 1 feature "Set Program Access and Defaults" and set something else as the default.

But do not remove it.
