Hi,
I've got a dell latitude cpia (upgraded to 500MHz) 256Meg Ram, 10G HDD, WinXP Home, Norton Internet Security Pro 2004.

Has ran fine since Christmas. In the last week or two IE is just a dog. Literally 1-3 minutes per web page load. Opera is better but not much. I noticed that when I start IE6 the System Process jumps to 60% and holds. Two other machines I have don't have the same characteristics. Similar software config. All share the Wan via a D-Link 614+ and cable modem.

Antivirus scan shows nothing.

Hesitant to load spyware/malware scanners since I've read conflicting reports on whether they themselves are spyware.

Did notice Windows Update showed MSDAC patch on Jan 13. Haven't checke other machines yet.

Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Try uninstalling that update. I have heard reports of that causing a problem however I am sure I will be corrected.
If its faster with it uninstalled at least you know that thats the problem.

Thanks for the info. I haven't figured out how to uninstall the MDAC update. It doesn't show up in the add/remove programs window relative to the KB# Windows Update shows.

Idea's?

What I would do would be to install XPSP1, IE6SP1-and any relevant critical updates.
If you have the time/bandwidth.
If not I hope a better post arrives here soon.

This is very, very unlikely due to the MDAC update.

Thanks for the replies.

Out of desperation I ran Ad-Aware and Spybot S&D. My system is back to it's speedy old self!

Wow.
