Hiya,

I have XP Home, SP1 with all the latest patches. Every site, except google and a few others, that I go to, I get a runtime error. Anything from Runtime Error 1, 16, 20, 38 etc

Now, I cannot even download and IE6 service pack :
I get this: You are not authorized to view this page
You might not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials you supplied.

which is absolute nonsense because I have never had a probmlem downloading anything before.

Please help - this problem is very annoying.

Thanx

I don't know if this will help but I used to have errors with IE6. I contacted MS Support. They looked at my minidumps and said that SymEvent (i.e. Norton AntiVirus) and/or ZonAlarm (firewall) were probably causing the problem. They said I should uninstall them. That of course was out of the question even for a minute.

But I noticed that I got these errors only when I closed the last IE window and then only if one of the pages I had visited was my ISP's home page.

It turned out that MSNBC Video embedded there was conflicting with SymEvent and ZoneAlarm. I complained to my ISP and insisted that that was what was causing problems. They could not solve my problems immediately. But shortly afterwards I noticed that they had made MSNBC Video optional on their home page and that if I used MSNBC Video on their page or elsewhere it no longer caused problems for me.

Your problem may be caused by one of the pages you are visiting. And, it may be caused by something on there conflicting with your other software. The problem may not be in IE itself.

Thank you.

I am using ZA - and I turned off 'Mobile Code control' - that seems to allow me to download patches, etc. again. I will try re-configuring ZA again but I have only had this problem for less then 2 months and I have had ZA for 2+ years now.

There is now way I will ever turn off ZA - people say it's crap, but I don't agree. It's not ISA, but it does the job.

Cheers.

I absolutely agree. A firewall, an antivirus, and a system restore facility that are active at all times, particularly when online, are a must.

If you have had this problem less than 2 months then I don't think reconfiguring ZA will help because the problem is most probably not there. It is quite probably something that has recently changed in one of the online pages you are visiting. Is your ISP's page your home page? Has it been redesigned or in any way been changed recently?

That is what happened to me. I have had ZA, NAV (NSW) and GoBack for years without any problems. But my ISP page which was my home page was changed as I said before.
