IE6 Loads Blank Pages 1

Got a desktop with XP SP 2 on it.

Interet explorer will open pages from the internet (you can tell from the bar on the bottom progress indicators), but won't displat any content.

I have check the MS KB and theres a similar problem when Auto-Select is ticked sometimes from the Encoding Options, but i've checked on this desktop and under the menu VIEW - ENCLODING instead of the list I would expect, it just says "NONE".

I have reapplied SP2 for XP, but this didn't solve the problem.

Also recently the BrowserUI.dll file had become corrupted and was replaced, but I have checked the file now with a working machine and they are the same version/size etc.

Can anyone offer any ideas?

Some more information - perhaps related.

I am unable to get any dialog box open from IE, e.g. the internet options page or the help/about window.

I can get to the internet options by right clicking on the IE icon in the start menu, but the general tab is missing.

The registry restrictions on tab visibility are not set - so the problem is coming from elsewhere.

I am also (unrelated?) unable to run the User Accounts utility from Control Panel (as I was going to recreate the profile)

If you can get this program downloaded from a friends house put it on floppy if you want for its not very big. Its called hijackthis. If you happen to have it make sure its the newest version. If not the link is below. Download the file, extract to desktop or prefered folder after you have it back at your place. Once extracted choose do a system scan and save a logfile and post the logfile results on here. I or someone else will take a look at them.

Remove this key and also check norton to see if its blocking certain things on site. One post I helped with we found out his norton was blocking certain graphics thinking they were pop up adds. So give those 2 a try and see if anything helps.

Done - still no change.

I've installed Mozilla Firefox as an alternative browser and workaround - that works fine.

Strange... Guess long term i'll have to reinstall it.

Thanks - although this strictly wasn't a registering of dll files problem - it did lead me to the problem. The file mshtml.dll was missing... Simple as that.

As soon as I replaced it - bingo - everything started working.

That's good to know. I'm surprised that the IEFix tool didn't complain with that file missing. One of things it does is to reregister all these dll's.
