Recently, I got a critical message from Microsoft windows support saying I should update my INternet explorer from version 5.5 to 6.0 - why should I do this and what are my disadvantages and advantages of doing so?
There are pros and cons to upgrading to 6.0. My advice, if 5.5 is working for you, don't upgrade.
I personally continue with the 5.5 as I find no problems with my websites with that version.
With the 6.0 version at the office, there are several websites that do not want to load or do not want to display the pop-ups correctly. The 6.0 service pack that was released has helped considerably with the java issues, but there are still annoyanaces. Sometimes IE will stop responding, other times, it doesn't wish to print, and my favorite, it closes automatically.
I have tried all three. I personally think the best browser is still IE5 SP2.
I have had no problems running IE6 on several machines although I know others have. Part of their issues was not IE6 but rather gator that caused their aggravation. The recent SP1 release on IE6 does correct a problem with the urlmon.dll file which has also been an issue.
I detest IE5.5. For me this is the worst release of a browser especially when it comes to downloading files.
Hope this info helps you in your decision process. joegz
