Greetings everyone

I have 1 person running IE6.0 (6.0.2800.1106.xpsp2) who receives an 'error on page' msg whenever she tries to access certain websites. When I double click on the 'error on page' warning symbol, I can see the following error:

"problems with this web page might prevent it from being displayed properly or functioning properly. in the future, you can display this message by double-clicking the warning icon displayed in the status bar.

Line: 1859
Char: 2
Error: Ojbect expected
Code: 0
URL:
As a result, this error prevents certain functions/drop-downlists from appearing correctly in the browser. In searching for this type of error online, several sites suggested that this problem is on the website. I do however have several other user switch w/identical hardware/OS an application config that do not receive this error. I have tried logging in w/my profile, and the same error appears when I access the same website.

I have tried removing and reinstalling IE6.0 (see KB318378) as well as XPSP2. I have tried deleting cache/cookies/history and lowering/removing security for scripting/cookies to no avail. I have also run a spyware check on the PC and removed any offending entries. Regardless of what I have done, the error still persists.

Does anybody have any suggestions for what else I can try? Is there something I have overlooked?

Hi, I've been able to reproduce the problem:

Disabling the windows firewall for the first access to the site resolved the problem.

Even when I enable the windows firewall again, the problem is gone...

I've had exactly the same symptom.

Hope this helps. Please let know if this resolve your issue

jfb, thanks for the feedback. by default, our deployment of XP SP2 has the firewall disabled. I have tried enabling/disabling the firewall and testing site access, the problem still persists.

I have noticed that when I clear my temp IE files, and access I get a splash screen prompting for English/French. Upon selecting English, this is when I notice the ERROR appear in the bottom left of the screen.

Other items I have noticed:
*Users IE is 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_rtm.040802-2158
*My IE is IE 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158CO
* I am able to access this webpage w/o errors
* In checking IE Security options, I have noticed that she has Java VM installed. I dont.

I'm continuing to test and troubleshoot this issue. If anyone has any other suggestions, I would greatly appreciate any feedback.

Thx.

Is it just this one website that breaks for you, or are there other examples you can give?

Dan

Greetings all

After multiple removals and reinstalls of Java VM, JRE and other system components, I finally figured out how to correct the problem.

* In Internet Explorer, select VIEW | ENCODING | WESTERN EUROPEAN (WINDOWS)

As soon as I selected this, the web page formatting corrected itself and the errors no longer re-appeared. This option was previously set to Western European (ISO).

Thanks all for your help.
