Hi,

we have had several situations where after upgrading to IE5.5(not SP2) straight from IE4.0 or 5.0, when clicking on the browser icon the splash screen that shows "Internet Explorer" and the version, displays for a fraction of a second and disappears again and the browser refuses to work.

From this point even if I uninstall the new version and revert back to the old version, the old version will now perform like this. The only resolution as of yet is to format and reinstall. Has anyone even heard of this as I can find no reference to it on the net.

The sytems spec is as follows:

Windows 95
Compaq Deskpro (P233Mhz)
16/32 Meg Ram

Thanks

Finally, a website that has this error. But no fixes!

I'm using NT 4.0 and have rebuilt a PC with IE 5, 5.5 and now 6 but neither of them will open. I've reservice packed NT and IE, still no joy.

This problem has happened before at my site but no one can remeber the fix.

Please help us :)

dude1971,
are you using any anti virus software on the pc? we are using sophos here and we found that if we removed sophos and then installed IE 5.5 locally (not off the network) then the problem disappeared. We have had many problems with our anti-virus software doing stuff like this so we should have tried it sooner! Hope this helps

I've found a fix!

You have to reboot and then repair the installation, this cures the problem.

Hope this helps others.

Regards

Dude
