We have 4 or 5 Windows XP desktops that IE desktop shortcuts will no longer work. A system reboot sometimes helps but the problem occurs again within a few hours.

Any suggestions? A couple of the PCs are less than 3 months old right out of the box.

Sound to me that its a problem with something you have done to all the affected computers. It isn't really something that coincidentally happens to 5 computers at once!!!

Also check for viruses. If you find a virus, take the affected computers straight off the network as this will be how it spread between computers

Hope it helps

Gary

Did not start happening all at once. Just on 4 or 5 out of 50-60 that we have deployed in the past year.

Computers are fully scanned each week and no virus is being detected.

Thanks for the suggestions.

You could use Add/Remove programs in Control Panel. Select Add/Remove Windows Components.

Uncheck the entry for Internet Explorer. Press Next. This will remove all IE and Outlook Express icons.

Repeat the process, this time reselect and check Internet Explorer. Press Next. This will restore fresh icons that were previously removed. This option only repairs icons and shortcuts of IE and Outlook Express.

A second opinion for malware may find what other scanners are missing.
