IE Shortcut doesn't work

When I click on the IE Shortcut either on the desktop, quick launch or in the program menu it doesn't work. I can open Internet Explorer by clicking on a short cut of a favorite that I have created on the desktop but not open the shortcut itself. I have tried going to options desktop customized and andding the IE Shortcut to the desktop and removing it and restarting the computer and resetting the internet options and nothing seem to help.

Any ideas?

You may have a spyware/virus infection. If you haven't tried this already, you could download HiJackThis

Try deleting anything you think is suspicious, or you could post the logfile here for review.

Make a shorcut to the C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe file on your desktop and see if it works.

Have a look at Control Panel/ Add or Remove/ Add-Remove Windows Components.

Maybe if you uncheck the reference to IE (it only relates to shortcuts) and OK/exit. Repeat the performance and this time tick the check-box.
