I have a problem with IE in that when downloading files, instead of the usual dialog box to save the file, IE opens the file in the browser as a version of the office application it is associated with. (eg CSV files open in an excel window.) I have checked the IE settings but can't find anything that remotely relates to this. I need to be able to download the actual files not have them opened. I am running XP Home, SP2 and IE 6, SP2.

Thanks

Robert

Hello Robert,
I think this will solve your problem (I have no English Windows so I hope I'll translate correctly):
Go to the (file-) Explorer (so not IE!). In menu Extra, Mapoptions, Tab Filetypes. Then go to your filetype, for instance csv. Click Advanced. Uncheck the box that is named something like "Open in same window".

Good Luck,
John

Start>
Settings>
Control Panel>
Folder Options>
File Types [Tab at top]
Select the File Type in the List (CSV)
[Advanced] Button
Check [] Confirm Open after Download
[OK]
[Close]

Thanks for the responses. I have tried this but the same thing is still happening.

Thanks.

Try this... Open Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer), Tools, Options, File Types tab, scroll down and select the CSV extension, Advanced button, check the 'confirm after download' box.
