IE not allowing searches

Anyone heard of this? When using Internet Explorer 6.X, I am unable to search on any search engine page. It returns a "http 404 error". Absolutley NO search engine will work. msn, yahoo, google. Is this a java problem? Active X? Anyone? I do not see this problem in the MS knowledgebase (unless I missed it).

Look at your HOSTS file for malware redirection of search engines.

In XP the hosts file is normally found in c:\windows\drivers\etc

You should also test for the qhosts trojan:

c:\windows\system32\driver\etcThat is where the hosts (no file extension) resides. You can use notepad to open the file.
