Starting today, whenever I initially load IE5.5, or open a new window in the browser, the window in question "freezes" for about 30 seconds. All other applications are fine, even other IE windows already open. After 30 or so seconds the window in question operates as if all is well.

Anyone ever experience this, and how to resolve the problem? I tried the following, with no help:

-reinstall IE5.5
-Run the "repair" feature

I had earlier searched through some newsgroups, and a couple of posts with similar problems as me tried some other stuff too with no result. Apparently based on these newsgroup posts upgrading to IE6 doesn't work either.

georgec,
My brother had this same problem. Ended up a rouge "browser helper object" (or BHO for short) had loaded itself and would delay the displaying of any IE windows for almost exactly 30 seconds. It used BHOCop (shareware app available in a lot of places) to disable it. The BHO he had was store din c:\Program Files\Network Essentials\NE8.EXE, or something like that.

I had the same problem. Tried all the recommended mathods then realized that I had a dead link in my IE Links bar. Removing that link solved the problem.

I used to get this call all the time working for Microsoft.
Delete the iemigrat.dll file and re-install from a downloaded copy.
try and download the whole IE instead of doing the install over the net.

You may download an extra 3 megs but it's more reliable.

I made a test which I think you should try:

This will test the time for the browser to generate a new window, please run it and remember to type in the result so that I can contact Microsoft with some data on this issue.

Thanks in advance.

I'm having the problem and none of these fixes have worked. If anybody stumbles across any other solutiopns, please let me know by mailing me at daytonz@aol.com. Thanks!

Check to see whether you have "Tracker Class" plug-in installed in windows/Downloaded Program Files. If so, right click and remove it. This is just spyware on a now non-existant server. Everytime you go to a new URL, IE is trying to reach that server and freezing the browser. This worked for me as I had similar problems.
