I am running IE 5.01 on a Win95 OS and suddenly it has started to request a password for entry into the Content Advisor screen. I have never setup a password and therefore I am prevented from entering the option to turn it off. The consequence is that when visiting sites on the internet IE keeps requesting a password to enter the site. Any ideas on how to clear the password back to deafult.

Can you not go into Internet Properties through the Control Panel folder and click on Content and disable the feature?

No you still need the password before IE will allow you to make any changes in this area.

You could also try uninstalling IE5.01 and then installing IE6 or maybe even just upgrade to 6. Personally, I would uninstall first.

Thanks but already tried that and only options are to revert to previous version. Upgrading retains all existing settings. not sure I want to go to IE6 on Win95 anyway as I have heard bad reports.

Take a look at FAQ608-170
