IE closes when address is put in bar 1

Help! When I type an address in the address bar without the "

HTTP://"

or ".com" my browser closes. I reset all the options to default and even installed IE 6.0 to try and remedy this. It did not work. I am running windows 2k pro with 512 ram, no probs there.

Did you try the repair tool?

Go to Start>Settings>ControlPanel>Add/Remove Programs, scroll down until you see Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 & Internet Tools, click the Add/Remove button and select repair.

Thanks for the tip, but I already tried that and it did not work. Any more thoughts on the subject? This is a very anoying problem.

To completely remove all IE temporary files, follow these steps:

Click Start, click Shut Down, click Restart In MS-DOS Mode, and then click OK.


At the command prompt, type the following commands, pressing ENTER after each command, and pressing Y if you are prompted to confirm folder deletion:


cd\windows
smartdrv
deltree cookies
deltree history
deltree tempor~1
exit

The neccessary files and folder will be re-created on startup.
