I thought this only existed with W98se, but it seems to be that my Win2k (sp 2) machine will drop connectivity through Internet Explorer 6.0 and Outlook Express on my DSL/LAN. The only way to restore my connection is to reboot the PC, but then it will eventually time out when the machine is idle. Ironicaly, my SSH, AIM, and other connections that do not use IE ports are still connected, and i can browse the LAN as well. I have run all the possible updates from Microsoft. Is there a patch out there for this or a setting that needs to be modified?

Any help would be lovely.

Thanks,
Jason

That doesn't sound like an IE problem..What type of DSL do you have? Does it authenticate thru entertec, I had a client with SWB DSL that did not stay "always on", we had to setup a router with keep-alives for him. Is your DSL link dropping, or is it the PC link? Sorry for the basic questions, just trying to clarify where you stand. Matt Wray

I have a static DSL connection. It is not "on demand". But after loooooooong searching I believe I have found the answer.

This article is for people using ICS, but by extending the timeout option in the registry, it seems to have resolved the issue.

thanks though!
Jason. :)
