I have a Server running 2003 R2 SP2 as wll as Exchange 2003. When I try to open Internet Explorer, it opens briefly and closes. I tried starting IE without Add-ons as well as resetting IE settings and no change. I was going to uninstall IE 7 but the uninstall shows a list of programs that may not run properly because of the updates run with IE 7. This being my Exchange server I want to tread litely. Is there a different approach I can try?

Did you run any scans for malware? I recall an issue with older versions of IE where it would crash as a result of certain spyware.

Have you just updated the browser and not restarted since the update? If so, is it possible to do a reboot?

Also, look at Task Manager and view the process list and look for iexplorer.exe

if there are some iexplore processes and you have no IE windows open, then you may have had a corrupt process that is killing the new processes when they are launched. End Task on all the existing IExplore.exe processes (click on Image Name to sort processes alphabetically and get all the IExplorer processes together)

No, I did not recently update my Browser and I did reboot as well as scan for viruses. We use Trendmicro.

I have heard of this happening with outdated video drivers. Did you happen to update this aspect when you performed your updates?
Try the following

1. In your display properties click the Settings tab, and then click Advanced.
2. Click the Performance or Troubleshooting tab (depending on your operating system), and then reduce hardware acceleration a notch at a time until your system stabilizes.

Running IME? Then check out the KB932823 Microsoft Knowledge Base article

I tried changing the display settings as suggested but no change. I reduced the hardware acceleration to the lowest settings.

I checked out KB932823 on Microsoft's Knowledge Base. That fix has to do with not being able to download files under IE7. I can't even open my IE 7.

Can you right-click on the IE shortcut and go to properties and attempt to delete files from your cache since it may be corrupted (or at least change the cache location)

I tried clearing the Cahe but no change.

Try re-installing IE?

I was going to try and uninstall IE7 but when I got a list of all the programs that might be affected if I uninstall IE7, I backed off being that this is our Exchange Server.

Exchange shouldn't be effected

Can you not just re-run the installation and it should do a fix/re-build of the IE System files.

I did the re-install of IE7 over the existing install and it
took care of the problem. Thank you all for assistance.
