I have a W98, machine, just installed IE 6, sp1. The machine's owner can browse the internet all day long, but when attempting to print a page, she receives a message indicating no printers availabe.

The printers are installed and we don't have this issue when printing from other applications.

I have attempted to uninstall IE 6, but don't get the option to uninstall, only repair. I've repaired and still get no printers in IE 6.0.

I've attempted uninstalling using the command prompt found in the MS knowledge base article 293907 without success. I was hoping to uninstall 6.0 and install 5.5.

Although, if I could figure out why there are no printers available in 6.0, I wouldn't have to uninstall.
Any help would be appreciated.

Irma

Have you checked in IE, File>>Page Setup>>Printer (at the bottom right) and selected the printer you want IE to print to?

Jim

Yes, I have checked that. The installed printers don't even appear even though in other apps they appear and print.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried IEradicator (nice little program). It did get rid of IE6. I installed IE 5.5, opened a web browser and unfortunately, still have no printers available when attempting to print.

The printers do appear and print in other applications though.

I did reinstall Windows just in case, but that didn't make any difference.

Found this:

Then make sure:

Checking your default printer before you print

Check your default printer using Internet Explorer

Select <File> <Page Setup> <Printer>
The printer name that appears highlighted, is your default printer. This is where your printed page will go.
To change your default printer using Internet Explorer
Select <File> <Page Setup> <Printer>
The printer name that appears highlighted, is your default printer.
Click the 'down arrow' in the printer name area and highlight your desired printer.
Click <O.K.> and <O.K.>
Printing

Select <File> <Print>. The application may indicate which printer is used

Thanks for the suggestions, I was able to quickly review her machine settings prior to her settling in to work today. In the browser page, I went to File and Page Setup. It does not open and I get the ever frustrating No Printers Available Error message again. I didn't realize it affected the Page Setup area as well.

When I get another chance to get on her machine (probably lunchtime) I will try out the other suggestions you gave. Thanks again, Irma
