IE 6 problem (please dont read this thread)

Now that i have you attention....
IE 6 problem, I have done a clean install on this computer
with XPpro SP2 edition.
have done all the upgrades exceteria, Now when i goto a website, The site comes in quickly BUT>>>> any advertising that has links dont come in and they always says.... the page cannot be displayed ...............

I have tried disabling NAV 2005, lowing the internet security in the browser settings.
I just cant figure what to try next.

Check your hosts file. That's exactly the behavior you want out of a good ad blocking hosts file. Is your ISP or perhaps your workplace blocking ads?

this is a clean install on a stand alone pc

Is Spybot installed? Spybot will modify the hosts file that MasterRacker is referring to.

If you are getting to "normal" sites but not ads, then something is actively blocking or redirecting requests to the ad sites. That is usually either a hosts file specifically for the purpose or some upstream device with a black list or something similar.

I haven't heard of a version of NAV implementing a hosts file but maybe it did. Make sure the file is empty. (Disabling NAV will stop scanning services, but would not affect a hosts file if one was placed.)

Look in your IE settings for restriced sites. This is not Windows, something else is stopping certain, specified sites.

Try pinging sites like ads.doubleclick.net or other knows ad servers. You can find plenty of examples in the hosts file available here:

Do you have another machine to try on the same network connection?

Do you have an internet privacy software? It also prevents most ads from showing.

Do you get the same results when using a different browser?
i.e. Mozilla Firefox

Fam good idea, but i havent tryed that yet.
I looked into the NAV thing and i dont have a vers with that option either....

I finally went and just deleted the hosts file and wala
the EI6 is up and running great. Weird that it could have been so plugged in just 2 or 3 days of a clean install
