This happens on a bunch of PC's at work using Windows NT and Novell. This was happening all the time in IE 5.0-5.5, but I could never find what was causing it. Now with IE 6, it gives me more information.

From event viewer:

The description for Event ID ( 1000 ) in Source ( Microsoft Internet Explorer ) could not be found. It contains the following insertion string(s): iexplore.exe, 6.0.2800.1106, sock5h32.dll, 1.0.0.0, 0000eb72.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

Are you running Zona Alarm? If so, disable it temporarily and see if this persists.

I know we have firewalls, but not Zone Alarm. Thanks for the reply.

I had the same problem this morning.

After looking for some info on this I remembered that I installed a new modem and did not configured it for the RAS. After configuring it my Internet Explorer started to work.

I no more having that event id 1000 error in my event viewer.

I hope this helps...

Thanks for the replies. One more thing I can say... We are using AutoSocks here. I found out that this dll is in the AutoSocks folder. I tried replacing it with a known good dll, but there is still something not right with it.

Oh... Also it is Aventail AutoSocks 2.2s. Yes... 2.2... but the newer versions do not work with proprietary software we have here. Go figure.
