IE 6 - index.dat file is bigger and bigger 1

Hi,

I'm using W98 SE with IE 6.

The file C:\WINDOWS\Temporary Internet Files\Content IE5\index.dat is big (3,152KB) and increasing in size, even if I purge the "Temporary Internet Files" directory (from IE or manually).

Is there anyway to shrink it or even remove it ? What's the best way to handle it ?

Yes, sorry, after searching with index.dat for keyword I found the answer to my question.

Don't know what you found, but the best way to clear it is in DOS.

Use the following commands

cd\windows
deltree cookies
exit

That is the ONLY way to completely empty the index.dat file as it is locked in the windows shell, and can only be altered in this way.
