I have a web site that has a kink to a local file - say MS Word. When I select this link on my XP machine IE6 displays the Word file from within the browser window. If I do the same thing on my Win 2000 machine (IE6 as well) it will launch the Word application and open the file. For me, I like the application launched...

How to I get Win XP to launch the application rather than display the file in the IE window?

To answer the reply and to be more clear, yes, it's the same version of MS Office

This has come up before and I'm not sure there's a solution. Search the MS office forum for 'Internet Explorer' and search the Browser Issues forum for 'Word or Excel'. I know there's something.

Here's a couple of them:

Thanks for the help everyone. The Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 162059 that someone pointed me to did exactly what I needed.
