IE 6 doesn't fill up the screen

Hi, this is my first post so don't hammer me please. Fire up my laptop yesterday and notice that when I open my browser that it doesn't it is positioned slightly down from the top of the screen so I can't read the status bar at the bottom of the screen...? Yes the window is maximized and I can't reposition it. Can anyone help? Thank you and Merry Christmas.

Can you manually adjust your view on the laptop itself horizontally/vetically?

thanks for the reply. it's not the display itself because programs open and position themselves correctly. Only my browser opens in this way. It looks maximized just shift down about a 1/4 inch.

Which version of IE are you running? Have you upgraded to 6.0 perchance?

Forgive that boner of a question. I'm running a little slow today. Did you recently upgrade to 6.0?

Also, check the status of your status bar. Go to the View drop menu and make sure that status bar is checked.

XP version 2002 SP1

That's what I thought.

Try these instructions. And yes, it's not a type, you do switch into Windows Explorer after a few steps.

If having problems with missing status bar when running XP OS:


1) Open IE (just one instance), go to View, select: Status Bar
2) Right-click on Int. Explorer's Toolbar and select Lock the Toolbars
3) Hold down the Control key and click the close button ("X&quot
4) Right click on the Start Button to open Windows Explorer,
go to View, choose Status Bar
5) Right-click on the toolbar and select Lock the Toolbars
6) Click Tools, Folder Options, View tab
7) Click the "Apply to all folders" button. Ok.
8) Hold down the Ctrl key and click the close button ("X&quot
9) Reopen IE to any page, right-click on a link and select
Open in New Window. (Your status bar should stay visible)
10)Click on the Start Button, go to RUN, and enter REGEDIT

11) Verify that the following Registry entries exist:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
"Show_StatusBar"="yes"
"Show_URLinStatusBar"="yes"
