Hi everyone,

Last week my IE6 Stopped working. (I'm running Win XP Professional.) At the time I was downloading the Windows Update - which I have now finished - and had just installed spywarekilla from Cnet.com.

Now when I try to run IExplore from either the desktop icon or Run ('iexplore') it flashes up on screen and then closes! It also closes if I type in an address for a certain page when using IIS.

example: "
This is really annoying, as I am trying to create a website but cannot view my pages. I have since uninstalled the pop-up killer but cannot work out why Internet Explorer isn't working. I don't have any anti-virus software (eek!) and am planning on getting some, but is there anything I can try until then?

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks,

Pete M

Does Windows Explorer work correctly? Can type an internet address into the Windows Explorer address bar? If so, come back here and try some of these online virus scans faq760-3862

Thanks for that,

Have used some of those scans and found 5 files infected :)

Hasn't affected IE though :(

One other thing you could try before doing the above procedures...

Start, Run, sfc /scannow

(have your xp cd handy).
