IE
Hi guys,

Last week I happened to update my Win2k with patches and unchecked the "keep a backup" option. I updated my IE 6.0 as well. Since then, my browser and some windows programs that were integrating IE dont apply Styles and all appear in blunt defaults. No proper coloring, no proper fonts/size and all looks crap.

Netscape 7.1 on my machine is doing fine with CSS.

Please help me [sadeyes] get out of this bizarre, pale and uninteresting world without CSS! [sadeyes]

Thanks in advance!

Roy.

Here is a really useful answer to your question.

I read this answer somewhere but as I cannot remember where then this is a really useful answer. It is well known that IE and netscape both had buggy implementation of CSS but most people got used to it and developed stylesheets accordingly.

IE6 attempted to fix these bugs but in order to avoid disruption they included support for the old css engine. So IE6 has 2 css engines; a new 'improved' version and the old legacy version. I think IE6 chooses which engine to use according to the doctype decleration. It may be that IE is using the new improved engine and the stylesheets are being rendered 'wrong'.

This is possibly the most useless post because I'm not sure of the details or even where I read this article. It's probably not even related to anything but might give you a start off point.

Dear MrBelfry,

Thanks for your help, it was a useful info alright but since I installed that SP, even my windows system has gone nuts. May components that depend on IE have gone black and white with extraordinarily big fonts! Even the Microsoft site isn't showing up properly on my IE! Netscape still works.

Thanks for the post but it looks like this isn’t the remedy am looking at. I cant even revert back to the older version of 6.0 that was working perfect for me.

Well, thanks anyway. I am still stuck with this so any suggestion will be received with gratitude.

Thanks!

"gone black and white with extremely big fonts." sounds like something that happened to me once.

I bet you have "Accessibility Options" enabled. Alt-Print Screen would turn that option on for me, and I hated it. Go to your control pannel and see if you have "Accessibility Options" and under the "Display" tab see if it is checked.

Might be barking up the wrong tree, but it can't hurt to look.

Mr Einstein,

You are f*** right [2thumbsup] and I am so happy to get my colors back. I was so depressed that I thought the only option is to re-install my OS which I never want to do.

Thanks a million... you sure get my vote for that.

Cheers [wavey3]
