When Something goes wrong with IE 5.5 it says, "IE has generated errors, an error log is being created." Does anyone know where I can find this Error Log that IE creates?

I have done a search on *.log and also have searched the Internet Explorer folder including ALL subfolders.

Thanks for any help.

Jeremy

Maybe the name is log.txt. If not, search for files
created or changed during the last day.

If you have NT or 2000 check the Event Viewer in the OS Administrative tools. In the Event Viewer, you can select from 'System', 'Security', and 'Application' logs. Try checking the application logs for your errors.

I hope that helps.

Does anyone know what causes these errors? My parents are running Win 2K, and within the last month, I have been told that these error messages are being generated every day. They get the message, and then IE shuts down.

I am running Win 2K also, and never get these messages. I also install the service packs and updates regularly.

SR,

There are a wide variety of possibilities as to the cause. What is important is knowing what those errors are exactly and what events are taking place to trigger them.

If you want help with a specific issue, then I would suggest posting a copy of the exact error(s) and what is happening. Your operating system and version would also be helpful. Hopefully, someone will then know what it means.

I run IE5.5 SP1 with Win2K Pro with SP1 as well. Also, I've been getting many errors, but I can't find nothing for IE under the Event Viewer!! Something wrong??

have you tried to restore a previous copy of explorer or attempted to repair it through the control panel? add/remove programs, remove explorer button and a menu comes ups to make the selection. if your system tray is identical to theirs, it must be a noncompliant program installation writing improperly to the registry. try to uninstall the last installed program prior to the errors starting. Or, its painstaking, remove one tray item at a time until the explorer error goes away.
