I use Win98SE box.
Keep getting "Illegal Operation"/"Will Close Down" message in IE 5.5 browser...

What to do if anything? Settings changes? To what?

Redownloading IE 5.5 only solution?

Thanks.

Query...

I have IE5.5....don't think I have SP2..I've held off on downloading IE6.0 for the time being, fearing new headaches...

Is it a net plus at this stage to download SP2 or a net minus?

If a "net plus", would I simply go to Microsoft web site? Windows Updates (Start/Settings)?

Thanks to all, richardhot

Footnotes:

1. Forgot to mention: have done Control Panel/Add/Remove Programs/IE 5.5/ Repair

Don't know if that has done the trick yet...will report back

2. Think I still have IE 5.5. Install exe sitting in Windows:\Temp folder, so could reinstall, I guess, if I had to...

Footnote to Footnote!
Forgot: did run System File Checker and found one entry about hh.exe has been replaced...think that's ok...

Update....

Due to minor but annoying bugginess in IE5.5, I followed the advice and went to IE5.5/Sp2.
Seems to be working fine so far.

Figure going step by step this way, lets me see what works and keeps IE6/SP1 in reserve as a final option.

Thanks to all,
