After reinstalling one of our Windows 2000 servers using IDR it asks you to
reload the data from a tape which the IDR finds. But when it trys to reload
the System State from the tape it fails saying "unable to attach to device."
During the IDR process using CD-ROM (ONLY) the incident is with, the CD IDR process on a Windows 2000 computer giving an incorrect computer name not allowing the restore to proceed correctly with the SYSTEM STATE. The only workaround at this time is rename the computer during the IDR process. Veritas is aware of this issue, we were the first to report this issue to Veritas.
You dont have to rename the server if you do the process correctly. By the way "correctly" means the total oposite to what it says in the manual. I have done quite a few successful IDR restores.
This is because you backed it up remotely but are rying to restore it locally. You need to make sure that the computer recognizes the Admin share. To do this, install the MS Loopback Adapter. That go to Start->Run and type \\server name\ADMIN$ and see if it comes up. Then you're good to go.
i have had the same problem with backup exec 8.6
i backuped my server locally and restored it but it would not restore my system state.
for me the error was that there was no network connection
and for me to get it without a network near the server was to install the microsoft local loopback adapter ( just like arrie said ) but it also works when you backuped locally and are restoring locally.
