I have an old P660 that I want to add 2 CPU's to. It currently reports 4 processors;

Name: PowerPC,RS64-IV
Node: PowerPC,RS64-IV@0
Device Type: cpu
Physical Location: U1.1-P1-C1

Name: PowerPC,RS64-IV
Node: PowerPC,RS64-IV@2
Device Type: cpu
Physical Location: U1.1-P1-C1
...
(two more listed after this)

I'm trying to figure-out if they are 2, 4 or 6-way CPU's. The increment after the "@" i.e RS64-IV@0 and RS64-IV@2 suggests they are 2-way, and the short listing from loscfg increments by two for each line item;

+ proc0 U1.1-P1-C1 Processor
+ proc2 U1.1-P1-C1 Processor
+ proc4 U1.1-P1-C1 Processor
+ proc6 U1.1-P1-C1 Processor

Is this the right reasoning or is there another routine I should use to ascertain the CPU type?

nd yes, I know these are old!!!!

Ta!

Or is it one x 4-way - in which case I would be trying to swap the 4-way to a 6-way.

Collect the output of:
lscfg -vp | grep -i -p processor
and
lsconf | grep -i model
then look them up in the parts setion, last chapter, of the service guide, or search for the Customer Card ID Number:

The p660 has 5 models covered in two service guides:
6H0 and 6H1 also covers the H80
or
6M1 also covers the M80

The 6M1 was/is 8-way and came with 2GB ram
The 6H1 was/is 6-way and came with 16GB ram
The 6H0 was/is 4-way and came with 8GB ram

Feature code 5213

CPU 4way 750Mhz CPU for P660

Feature code 5221

CPU RS6000 6way 750Mhz for P620/P660

I don't have a box to try this but i know that prtconf tells alot of information about the server! Correct me if i'm wrong please!

You are correct, it tells you almost exactly the same as the lsconf command I mentioned earlier but it wont tell you what processor cards you have.

Ok DukeSSD. No hard feelings!

That's what i got when i run it on my machine:

Code:
System Model: IBM,9117-570
Machine Serial Number: 655C1EB
Processor Type: PowerPC_POWER5
Number Of Processors: 1
Processor Clock Speed: 1654 MHz
CPU Type: 64-bit
Kernel Type: 64-bit
LPAR Info: 6 dblpar
Memory Size: 4096 MB
Good Memory Size: 4096 MB
Platform Firmware level: Not Available
Firmware Version: IBM,SF240_202
Console Login: enable
Auto Restart: true
Full Core: false

and yes it will be similar to the lsconf.

Khalid

Ok great answers guys, and a good discussion

DukSSD's lscfg routine provided;

# lscfg -vp | grep -i -p processor
The following resources are installed on your machine.

Model Architecture: chrp
Model Implementation: Multiple Processor, PCI bus

proc0 U1.1-P1-C1 Processor

proc2 U1.1-P1-C1 Processor

proc4 U1.1-P1-C1 Processor

proc6 U1.1-P1-C1 Processor

Processor Card:

Customer Card ID Number.....25EA
EC Level....................0000
FRU Number..................0000053P1301
Serial Number...............02134003
Manufacture ID..............00000008
Version.....................RS6K
System Info Specific.(YL)...U1.1-P1-C1
Physical Location: U1.1-P1-C1

# uname -M
IBM,7026-6H1

Looking in the Service Guide for the 6H1 reveals that 25EA is a (page 471);

25EA (max) 1 4-way 750 MHz processor

So...

I haven't seen inside a P660 (bit old in the tooth now) but I believe the 6H1 only allowed for one processor card - that had to be pre-ordered with the chosen n-wnay processor. I think the 6M1 had a bit more flexibility, allowing a second processor card to be installed and the required n-way processors to be activated through licensing.

If no one has anything to add, once again thanks for all the input.

As you say, only the one CPU slot but it looks like you can replace it with a 6 way 750MHz if you can find one and justify the expence.
You could probably sell the existing 4 way to the reseller you buy the 6 way card from.
