I have a feeling this is going to be simple but I cannot find any documentation online and can't seem to figure it out on my own.

I'm trying to get organize phones on desks and I want everyone to have the correct base extension at their desks. I have simply been deploying phones as necessary and most users are logged in as Guests. Is there a way to identify the BASE extension of the phones so I can place them on the correct users' desks?

Thanks!

Are you talking about IP phones or DS phones?

Sorry, should have mentioned that. I am using 46xx and 56xx series IP phones.

Dont get confused with Digital and IP phones, with an Dig Phone you can login as a different number to your base extn but that is not possible with IP Phones as there is no physical ports to connect too, so once an IP phone is logged in as a number that's it, that's it's number :)

Oh really? I am able to log into any phone here in the office as any user. The phone model numbers are 4610SW IP and 5610SW IP. I thought these were IP phones and not DS phones but I could be wrong. Also, many users have a little letter "G" by their username on the phone screens. I thought this meant they were logged in as "Guests

no that means they are in a group

Wow, how misinformed I've been this whole time...[neutral] So then does that mean that if I apply settings to "EXTENSION" 1234 then those settings will apply to any phone that the "USER" associated with that extension logs into?

Thanks!

yes they will.

You can login and out with Ip Phones, what I'm saying is with an IP Phone it is impossible for it to be logged in as anything but it's base extension as the base extension is not against any physical hardware, until the IP phone is logged in for the first time it has no extn at all, with Digital phones it is possible to login as a different number to the base extension it is physically connected too. You follow? :)

I follow, thanks for everything. The worst thing about this is that the misinformation I received wasnt even from online, it came straight from my Avaya rep. But I understand how it works now and this makes a lot more sense. [smile]

Thanks again

funniest thing is, you arent the first.

if it was your rep that told you that G means guest i would get shot of them sharpish. :)
