IDE drive not detected

A couple of times in the last month the system cannot detect the IDE drive. Now it is happening more frequently.
Any idea what I could check besides the connection. Would it be something as easy as the cable?

I had the same problem, check the IDE Cable and power cable are firmly attached to the drive and have no obvious defects, if it still keeps happening try the computer with another drive if you have one (e.g. from another computer). If the other drive works fine then your first drive needs replacing. I had to replace mine when it did this.
