ID repeating problem

I have a Dbase IV database it hace a sequencing uniqe ID for every record.
The problem we are having is the number is iradic. It will duplicatce numbers and add numbers in the middle of the sequence and then continue to repeat that number over and over again.

Is this "sequencing uniqe ID " generated by your own code? If so,you may want to post the code that does this.

actually I believe it is done by the database files them selves

I may be off-base here but as far as I know, DBF files don't do this by themselves. I think 1oldfoxman has the right idea - there's got to be some code that's doing this for you.

There's always a better way. The fun is trying to find it!
