Hey everyone,

My company has the Mitel ICP 3300 VoIP controller, with a 5.1 version software. I know that Mitel added SIP support in 5.0, but I am wondering how compatible this really is.

For instance, I'm looking at purchasing the Polycom Soundstation IP4000 SIP-based conferencing phone for a couple of conference rooms, and I want to know if it will work.

Has anyone tried it?

Thanks!

You may have been mis-informed, there is no SIP support in Rel 5. Some of the new IP phones are "dual boot" which allows them to work SIP or MINET(mitel IP) but the 3300 controller itself is not SIP.

Sorry !!!

Thanks for the vital info... our product rep who sold our Mitel system told me that the 3300 supports SIP. But I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if he's wrong.

Not that I don't believe you, but is there any documentation I can find that clearly specifies what protocols are/n't supported?

Not sure how to reconcile this information.

Thanks.

Another question too --

If the 3300 doesn't support SIP, is there a way to setup an asterisk system or something that would interface to the 3300 to give me SIP support?

I am miffed by MiNet, when there are open standards (and cheaper phones that operate on them) available.

SIP trunking is coming, but I doubt the controller will ever support SIP phones, but I guess you never know. Minet is what gives you all of the call control features, I doubt a SIP phone can do *everything* a Minet phone can do. But times change and Mitel will need to adapt to where the technology goes.
