I logged into our Citrix client and the icons on my desktop were upside down and backwards. People here have heard of that happening but have never seen it until it happened on my machine. Has anyone seen this happen and can anyone please help me out? Here's more information :

Citrix ICA 32-bit Windows Client (ICA Win32 Client)
Version: 6.0
August 2000

It's installed on an HP Vectra VL PC that has 64 MB of RAM and has a Cirrus Logic 546X 1.70j (with a Laguna 3DA 5465) video card/driver installed. I am running at a screen resolution of 1024 x 468 but the Citrix client is set to run at 800 x 600.

Any help that anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks and Merry Xmas,
Cale

I've heard of this quite a few times now, but not seen it. I understand it is caused by an issue in some of the FR1 components and some graphics chipsets.

If the client is running > 256 colours, take it down to 256. I know this is not very satisfactory, but I am chasing this with Citrix myself to see if there is anything else that can be done.

In some cases, even this does not work. Colleagues of mine have changed the graphics card and got it working properly.

I'd be pleased to know your results.

Happy Christmas!

CitrixEngineer,

Thank yo so much for the reply. The only thing is replacing the video card is not an option. What's weird about the whole thing is the fact that everything is not that way...just some. For instance, in Outlook the icons at the top are upside down and backwards but the icons in the shortcut bar are normal. On the desktop the icons along the far right side of the monitor look normal but the other ones are off. If it was a video/graphics problem wouldn't all of the icons behave strangely? Wouldn't all the text be backwards? Please let me know what you think and also what Citrix tells you.

Thanks a Million and Happy Holidays!

I not have see this, but does it happen on all client logins or just a few or one? If ony a few or one have you tried deleting the profile and allowing it to rebuild to see if the problem goes away?

It has happened on mine (here at the coporate office) but it has also happened at a site ion Chicago. Until my PC did it we have heard of it but never actually saw it with our own eyes. Have not tried to rebuild the profile. Do you think it's a profile problem?
Happy Holidays!

So far, the only information I can find on this is that it happens with Matrox graphics cards, and that updating the driver, and/or turning down the hardware video acceleration can solve it.

Citrix are aware of this issue, but say that they need specific details of the occurrence. Apparently they have some update files where appropriate. It would seem that the issue is with the new client and certain graphics drivers.

If updating the card does not work, I would suggest you contact Citrix. If you do not have a support contract with them, try posting to their support forum.

An alternative might be to regress back to the old client.

I hope this information is useful.

Thanks to everyone who posted on this issue. Turning down the hardware acceleration worked and I can't thank you all enough for all of the great insight.

Merry Xmas To All!
