when i create a shortcut on my desktop,,,i allways get the internet explorer icon, and not the site icon...running vista home premium...how do i solve this problem?

Perhaps asking the Vista forum may yield better results:

However, by site icon do you mean the favicon?
Like the Red square with the white slanted T for Tek-Tip's that shows up in the address bar?

yes....like when you open a web page...right click on it...and click on -create a shortcut..it will place an icon on your desktop...and when you want to go that webiste..just click on the icon on the destktop.....but a lot of mine are the microsfort explorer icon in vista...but not so in xp.

So it works in XP but not in Vista.

Try this:
Right click on the Desktop and click on View and Classic Icons. (See screenshot below)
NOTE: Since URL shortcuts only use small favicons icons, this will let you see the favicon instead of the default IE7 E icon. A workaround for just changing to smaller icons is to increase your DPI size to 120, if you do not mind everything else be a bit larger as well.

Go to C:\Users\usernamexxxx\AppData\Local (enable hidden folders) and delete IconCache.db. Reboot or logoff and let it rebuild the icon cache.

Often icons stuff up if you don't have the correct access permissions.

In Vista sometimes setting a new default program to run the icon's program and then resetting it back to correct program will fix icon problems.

Icons involving IE often reset to correct icon once IE has checked to see if it is the default browser. You can do this via Tools/ Internet Options/ Programs/ Default web browser.

You could also try cleaning out you Temporary Internet Files.

okay.. thank you for the imput....will read threads and try to solve this problemm.....later\
