how would i put an icon in the address bar???

like this website has a star

<link rel=&quot;shortcut icon&quot; href=&quot;/favicon.ico&quot; type=&quot;image/x-icon&quot; />

Put this in the <head> section of your html, put the .ico file in the aforementioned folder (in this case, root). There are online editors to produce .ico files:

Usually, creating a 16x16 bitmap image (.bmp) and simply renaming it to .ico will work as well. Hope it helps.

you can also use Irfanview ( and create a 16x16 16colour image then save it as an .ico file.

then call it favicon.ico and put it in the root of your site.

Chris.

Indifference will be the downfall of mankind, but who cares?

I have created the ico file, and put the proper html within the <head>, but the icon disappears out of the addressbar when I change pages, but it remains in the tab on my browser? Sup with that? ANy ideas?

Browsers seem to be very flaky about displaying the favicon. IE is the worst offender - it rarely displays it correctly, I find... In fact, it normally doesn't attempt to display it until after you've added the page to your favourites list.

Other browsers, such as NN seem to display it correctly most of the time, but you will need to put the icon link on all pages that you wish it to be displayed for, as far as I'm aware.

Hope this helps,
Dan
