Hello to all...

I'm installing a different anti-virus on our workstations remotely and what I have done is managed to stop the services for Mcafee and Disable them, but what I need to do is to remove the icon from the system tray. It shows as disabled, but I know this will confuse the users.

If someone can help me with this, it would be appreciated.

Thanks in Advance

Hi,
I assume you're using Virus Scan Enterprise. If you are.....
Open up the virus scan console and click Tools > User Interface Options, you can turn off the icon in there.
If you're managing VSE by ePO I can't recall seeing an option in there to do it, but it must be there somewhere,.

Is there a way to do it throught the registry or a service that I can turn off?

Pretty sure you can, which version are you running?

We've got versions from 6 to 8. No one kept up to date on upgrades.

just found this article.
as you've disabled virus scan anyway, you could try deleting vsstat.exe

Is there a way I can remotely uninstall the program instead of just hiding the disabled icon?

ok, ignore the fact it's mcafee.

go here in the reg:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

and remove anything that relates to mcafee or network associates

(assuming that your not using any other mcafee products!)

I think you'll struggle as any uninstaller probably would have been removed and you've got different version so you won't even be able to script it.
