Hi,
i have an ibm thinkpad type 2628 (pentirum III). the charger was lost, and my son found a charger that he thought would work. while i was at work, he plugged a sysco router charger (48 volts) into the laptop. now the laptop won't turn on. my question is, would the pc just shut off when a power current larger than allowed, is plugged in? (just like when it gets too hot, it shuts off). is there a fuse or reset or something? or is this thing just fried? there must be a way to fix this. or is there?
thanks.

You may need to replace the battery and then try plugging in the correct charger for the laptop.

Since the specified adapter voltage for your laptop is approx. 16V, my guess is that the unit is fried if 48V was applied to its circuitry.

i tried the correct adapter, it didn't work. i'm trying to see if there's a separate board for power. is there?
