Hi,

I have an IBM thinkpad T22 that will not boot up.

A few LED's will start to flash, indicating it is trying something, but the screen shows nothing, I can't hear the hard drive 'whirring' etc. I have reseated the mormory, but that does not help.

This problem started after installing software for a wireless lan card, which then gave IRQ error. I have also installe dthis card on a Compaq nx9005, which gave the 'blue screen', and needed to be reset, but that came up fine.

The T22 is running XP Pro.

You could try re-setting the bios.
Can you uninstall the hardware part of the wireless lan, that might help get you up and running again?

It doesn't post at all? The LCD stays blank?

Installing a driver isn't going to have that kind of impact on the system. The OS doesn't even begin to load until after the machine posts. And drivers don't load until after the kernel is loaded (and there's already be an IBM logo and then a Windows logo on your screen by then.)

Pop the battery out of the laptop and use only your AC adapter. Fire up the laptop and immediately press your "Access IBM" button.

If you can't even get into the BIOS doing that... you may need to call IBM.

Dispensing quality rants and mishaps since 1999:

I tried what you said with the battery and Access IBM button, but it still did nothing. It does appead to be turning on, the fans start up, but you don't hear the hard drive whirring. I think it might be that that has gone. Is there anywhere I can get diagrams of how to open the T22, as it is quite a tricky beast to open. At least then I can go off to ebay and try for a hard drive :-D.

You don't need to open it to remove the hdd, there is a door on the side, remove the big headed screw, have cover open, remove the hdd. Has the audio connectors and the IR port on hdd cover. You still didn't clear the bios. there are 2 batteries on the laptop, I believe you have to remove the keyboard to get to the cmos battery. 2 screws on bottom in the middle, other 5 screws hold the wrist rest on. After the 2 screws are removed take a small screwdriver and below the space key and alt key you can slide the screwdriver in, and gently push keyboard towards the lcd, once the tabs for the keybaord clear the wrist rest, you just lift it out, and be very carefull with the cable as it tears easy.
