IBM Netvista 6830

Hi all,

I installed win 2k server and I can't get the sound driver to work on this pc. I've tried downloading it from the ibm site but after installing the driver, it pops up with message saying device cannot be found. I've called ibm tech support but they said win 2k server doesn't support this driver. Does anyone know if this is true? I find this hard to believe. Thanks in advance.

Just like NT, I wouldn't think the flavor of 2000 would make a difference. Is the driver supposed to be for Windows 2000? What type of audio chip/card is in this box?

The driver is supposed to be for Win 2k. The audio is built into the motherboard.

I saw two audio drivers on their website for W2K...have you tried both?

Is it possible that the audio is disabled in the Bios setup?
Prior to attempting to install the driver, did W2K find the device? If not, then it probably is disabled.

You could also have another adapter stomping on its resources....highly unlikey though. The IBM driver appears to be WDM which should indicate that the sound chip is natively supported in 2000. So, it should have detected it during the install of W2K and used a default driver if you did not have an update available.

Chekc out device manager and see if the audio adapter is listed and see if it indicates any problems with it.

I tried both drivers and neither works. I also checked in the BIOS and it's not disabled. The device manager shows the question mark for PCI devices. It says the drivers for this device are not installed. The funny thing is, my co-worker has a netvista 6840 and he installed the same driver on win 2k server as well and it works.
