IBM LTO2 and ntbackup/rsm

I know that the obvious answer is "don't do it; use a proper backup tool", but the question has to be asked anyway ! Can ntbackup and removable storage management on W2K be used with an IBM LTO2 ? I know it is not the optimum combo, but somebody doesn't want to spend £$£$£ on a third party backup suite....!
 
Why spend so much money on a high end tape drive without the software backing it? Sorry, had to get that out there.

Well, if you must know....
The customer has spent his money on PowerQuest V2I protector to provide server disaster recovery; it is essentially a dataless server that does not need a file based backup; however, the server comes with an LTO drive as standard and so they wanted to use it as an occasional archive capability....
