IBM Deskstar 60GB W2K Problem

Hi,

I have a IBM Deskstar 60GB (IC35L060AVER07) drive in a W2K System based an a Via AX63Pro Board.
Windows ist reporting Event 11 (Controller Error on Device\Harddisk... which translates to the IBM drive) and sometimes now Windows freezes up or reboots (no bluescreen), so I donwloaded the Drive Fitness Test.
Windows chkdsk never reported any errors.
(The drive worked for +/- six month without problems)
But I can not perform a test, I always get a 0x20 returncode which would be device not found. Drive Information (smart status etc.) do work.

SMARTDefend reports that there is no IBM drive in the System.

I have W2K Prof with SP3 installed with the latest VIA IDE Busmaster drivers.

Any suggestions?

Did your drive come with a diagnostic disk? If you don't have a disk, try downloading one off of the IBM Website and see if that helps your problem...
 
Hi,

The drive was bulk - without any software.
I have downloaded several tools from IBM.
Drive Fitenss Test reports that it can not access the drive 8return code 0x20). The drive ist listet in the device list, and I can display the Infos - only the tests do not work.

IBM Feature Tool can access the drive and I can i.e. change smart-Options or else.

The IBMTools HDD Drive Info Windows tool reports thet I need to upgrade the Firmware to A45A (current firmware version is ER60A46A... would that be a downgrade?), but than again the
Firmware Update Bootdisk reports that there is no drive to update. (Is there a way to force an upgrade?)

The drive still works with Windows.
