We have an IBM6400 printer that is located at a remote site. The printer was previously connected to an AS/400 Model 270. We have since upgraded our system to an iSeries Model 810. The printer no longer works with the new system which is running v5.2. The old system was running v5.1. We have worked with IBM to resolve the issue but have not had any success. Anybody out there had this problem or have any suggestions? We have tried using snmp and LPR.

Have you tried reconfiguring the printer?

I'VE TRIED RECONFIGURING EVERY WAY POSSIBLE, STILL NOTHING. WE KEEP GETTING A MESSAGE SAYING TCP/IP CONNECTION CLOSED FOR REASON CODE 2. WE HAVE SEVERAL OTHER PRINTERS AT THIS LOCATION THAT GO THRU THE SAME ROUTER THAT ARE ARE WORKING FINE. I'M READY TO BLOW IT UP!

error is TCP2617

What's the text for error message TCP2617? This is on V5R2, right?

It's V5R2, TCP2617 tells you tcp/ip has reached a retry threshold. I ran a communications trace which shows the iSeries sending but not receiving anything back from the printer. Yesterday we replaced the 6400 with another IBM printer and it works fine. We have had IBM out to work on the 6400 but that didn't help. Guess we will have to have them come back since the problem is obviously hardware related. Thanks

The only other thing I can think of, is that something with that printer is not supported in V5R2.

I have recently upgraded to v5r2 and we have a 6400 and it is working fine. I get the same error message but it is related to an inhouse server and a third party software vendor. I do not know what causes the error message nor how to help you with the 6400 except to say I think they are not related.
